Annual Report 2018 - 19

From the Director’s Desk…

The logo of the SXSSS implies four values, these are justice, education for all, better health service and most of all Care for our Common Home -Mother Earth. Many people are suffering today because of unjust wages, unequal distribution of wealth, malnutrition, undemocratic distribution of education and poor health services. Problems such as inhumane war, unfair distribution of economic properties and unjust dealing of natural resources are also making the people suffer. Due to the spread of such evil problems and unjust treatments, human dignity and human rights are being violated.

Human beings have a unique responsibility towards the environment because the human condition is informed by an inherent connection with their natural surroundings, of whose resources they partake. It is essential to protect the environment in order to ensure a harmonious and peaceful human existence.

Various human rights groups play important role in a society. These groups ensure that the rights of individuals in any society do not get violated. But what happens when there are groups in a society who need more protection for the sole reason that they belong to the fringes of the society? Since they belong to the marginalized groups, their rights are often violated by those who belong to the mainstream. If we want to create a just and fair society, we must ensure that those belonging to the vulnerable groups do not face harassment and exploitation in the society.

It is a clichéd statement to say that India is a land of diversity. Despite the fact that the Indian Constitution guarantees the right of equality to all Indian citizens, the reality is quite different. In practice, there are groups that face discrimination and prejudice. These include women, children, Dalits, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the forest tribe dwellers, etc.

It’s my extreme pleasure to present to you the Annual Report of the year 2018-19.
