Fr. Ramiro Erviti SJ
"We are aware of our serious responsibility, which our duty as educators has placed on us. We can do much, though within limits, to prepare the leaders of society that our country requires, people dedicated to the good of the country and the uplift of the underprivileged. This is a challenging task that extends itself far from the mere academic training and aims at a complete development of our students, giving them wide horizons, an open mind and heart and in particular, an acquaintance and involvement in the grave social problem that our country faces." (Fr. Erviti SJ while preparing the master plan for Social service League in 1974)
Fr. Ramiro Erviti SJ Embodied: Humility, enthusiasm, companionship, loyalty, innocence, love, generosity, vision, flexibility, and persistence. He taught that it is possible to make a change... You don't have to take the world as it is given to you. You can indeed, should work to improve it. He listened to his students and colleagues. He engaged with them. He allowed them to disagree with him, sometimes, leading them to discover their own errors, sometimes leading him to introduce changes in his own practices. He allowed them to make mistakes; He allowed them to point out his own shortcomings. He allowed their self-confidence to bubble up. He encouraged them to be courageous... Man of contemplation in action
